National Express FAQs
- Go to nationalexpress.com and use the Journey Planner to search for your route, travel date, and number of passengers.
- Select your preferred fare from the results. Note that discount codes only apply to Standard and Fully Flexible fares, not Restricted fares.
- On the Your Details page, look for the "Do you have a voucher code? Click here" link.
- Enter your code in the box and click Apply.
- Confirm the discount appears in your total before completing payment.
If you are logged into My Account at the same time, the £1.50 booking fee is also waived. Both savings apply together at checkout.
This is for commuters who want an alternative to driving or taking the train. Choose the two locations you travel between most and purchase a Season ticket for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. The one month option is a great option if you want to trial commuting with National Express.
Visit a National Express Coach Station or Travelshop to book. Prices are calculated on request.
There are three types of tickets at National Express:
- Restricted fare: The cheapest ticket but it cannot be amended or refunded. It’s also exempt from Coachcard discounts.
- Standard fare: No refunds or cancellation, but it can be amended for £5 and can be booked with a Coachcard or National Express promo code.
- Fully flexible fare: Full refund and cancellation if you cannot travel and no fees on amendments.
How to save at National Express
Sign up to My Account
The National Express My account provides immediate benefits by letting you save £1.50 on the booking fee. That brings fares from as low as £4.80 down to £3.30. Additionally, you need an account to refer a friend to National Express, which saves you another 20%.
There are other benefits, such as:
- View and amend your booking with ease
- Personalise your journey with extra luggage or reserving a seat
- Checkout faster with your personal details saved
- Receive personalised offers and manage your preferences in one place
Consider a Coachcard if you’re eligible
Unfortunately, the Coachcard isn’t available to everyone. You need to either be 16-26 years old, over 60 years old or have a disability. A National Express Coachcard costs £30 and saves you 1/3 on all standard or fully flexible fares.
On top of the 33% discount, senior and disabled Coachcard holders can travel anywhere in the UK (excluding airports) on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for £15 on return trips.
Book in advance
According to National Express, book a minimum of three days in advance to get the lowest prices. That’s a very lenient early booking discount, with rail travel often requiring one month or more in advance to get lower prices.
National Express group discount
Groups of three or more people can travel between London’s four major airports (Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and Gatwick) for just £20 each way. The discount is automatically applied at checkout.
