Expedia FAQs

How to save money on Expedia

Join One Key — it’s free and it actually pays

One Key is Expedia’s loyalty programme and, unlike a lot of loyalty schemes, it’s genuinely worth your time. Sign up for free (or download the app and create an account) and you’ll instantly start earning OneKeyCash — Expedia’s reward currency where £1 of OneKeyCash equals £1 off a future booking. No confusing points-to-pounds conversions, no faff.

You’ll also unlock Member Prices straight away, which means at least 10% off on over 100,000 hotels worldwide. The tiers work like this:

  • Blue (0–4 trips): 10%+ off member prices
  • Silver (5 trips): 15%+ off, plus food and drink extras at VIP Access hotels
  • Gold (15 trips): 20%+ off, room upgrades when available
  • Platinum (30 trips): 20%+ off, priority support, 6% OneKeyCash on VIP Access stays

Your trips across Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo all count toward the same status. So if you book a hotel on Hotels.com and a flight on Expedia, they’re adding up in the same pot. That’s genuinely useful if you use any Expedia Group brand already.

Book via the app for prices the desktop version doesn’t show

The Expedia app isn’t just a convenient way to manage your bookings; it unlocks a separate tier of deals. App-only discounts of up to 20% off are available on selected hotels, and they’re only visible when you’re logged into your One Key account through the app. Worth a two-minute comparison before you commit.

Gold and Platinum members also get Price Drop Protection on flights booked via the app. If the price drops after you’ve booked, the difference comes back to you as OneKeyCash. A genuinely useful feature if you book ahead.

Book flights and hotels together

Packaging your flight and hotel through Expedia can save up to 25% on the hotel portion compared with booking them separately. One Key members can save up to £100 on package deals, and adding a car hire on top knocks a further 10% off the whole bundle.

Beyond the savings, there’s a practical bonus: one booking reference, one customer service contact, and ATOL protection.

Sign up to the Expedia newsletter

Expedia’s email newsletter is where early access to sales and exclusive member pricing lands first. If you like knowing about a deal before it hits the homepage, it’s worth a subscribe. You can unsubscribe anytime if your inbox gets cluttered.

Use the refer a friend offer

If you haven’t used the Expedia app yet, there’s a decent incentive to start: refer a friend and you’ll both receive £25 when they complete their first hotel booking through the app. Worth looping in a travel-minded mate before your next trip.

Watch for sales around key dates

Expedia runs flash sales and member-only promotions throughout the year, with the biggest discounts typically appearing around Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and during school holiday periods. Last-minute deals — usually at least 20% off — are worth checking if your travel dates are flexible. The Deals section of the site is the quickest way to see what’s live right now.

Why book with Expedia?

Expedia started in 1996 as a Microsoft project and has grown into one of the world’s largest travel platforms, bringing flights, hotels, car hire, holiday packages and activities together in one place. For UK travellers, a few features genuinely stand out.

The interactive map tool is one of Expedia’s best-kept secrets — rather than scrolling through a list of hotels, you can browse by location and compare prices on a map at the same time. If you care about being close to the centre, the beach, or a specific attraction, it saves a lot of back-and-forth.

Ryanair flights on Expedia — yes, really. Expedia has partnered with Ryanair, which means you can compare Ryanair fares alongside other airlines within the same search rather than hopping between sites.

Klarna available — Expedia accepts Klarna’s Pay in 3 for eligible hotel and holiday package bookings, letting you spread the cost interest-free. Standard credit and debit cards and PayPal are also accepted. Apple Pay works on the app.

VIP Access properties are a collection of hotels that consistently receive the highest guest ratings across Expedia Group. One Key members get access to perks at these properties — room upgrades, late checkout, food and drink extras — on top of the standard member discount. Worth filtering for if you’re treating yourself.
