Ways to Save at Amazon

Sign up for Amazon Prime

Becoming a Prime member is the single best way to save at Amazon. For £8.99 a month, you get:

  • Unlimited one day delivery on millions of eligible items, with same day or overnight delivery free on selected orders over £20 depending on your postcode
  • Same day grocery delivery on orders over £60 with Morrisons or Amazon Fresh
  • Prime Video
  • Prime Photo, with unlimited photo storage on Amazon Cloud Drive
  • Amazon Music, with over 100 million songs ad free
  • Access to Prime Day deals

Prime Day deals

Amazon runs its own version of Black Friday, twice a year. Amazon Prime Day itself takes place once a year, usually at the end of June or in July, running across multiple days. Amazon Prime Big Deal Days follows a similar format in October, timed just ahead of the holiday season.

Expect some of the best prices of the year during these events, particularly on Amazon’s own products and bigger purchases like kitchen appliances, TVs and electronics.

Shop Today’s Deals

There’s always something reduced at Amazon. Head to Today’s Deals in the navigation bar to see the best prices across the site, with discounts of up to 70% on a wide range of products. You can filter quickly by deals under £15, or by category, such as fashion, computers or home cinema.

Within these categories, keep an eye out for lightning deals too. These are flash sales that run for less than 24 hours and come with limited stock, so they’re worth checking regularly rather than just once.

Baby wishlist

Parents should make use of the Amazon baby wishlist, which comes with a couple of genuinely useful perks:

  • Free welcome gift: create a baby wishlist, wait 5 days, then add eligible items worth £10 or more to unlock a free welcome gift.
  • 15% off baby items: add everything you need to your wishlist to get 15% off, up to a combined value of £2,000, for a maximum saving of £30. Your wishlist needs to be active for at least 14 days, and the discount becomes available 180 days before the arrival date you enter.

Subscribe & Save

Most households buy the same things on repeat, whether that’s laundry tabs, paper towels, pet food or diapers. Subscribe & Save gets you up to 15% off these kinds of regular purchases, with the exact discount ranging from 5% to 15% depending on the product and how many items you have delivered at once, with five or more items unlocking the maximum discount.

You can choose delivery intervals from every 2 weeks up to 6 months, and skip or cancel at any time. Occasionally, Amazon will also throw in a discount code for your first Subscribe & Save order.

Refurbished products

Amazon Resale is one of the more overlooked ways to save. It’s where you’ll find quality used or open box products, graded as like new, very good or good, at a fraction of the retail price. Discounts can reach as high as 80%, and you still get the standard 30 day return window if you’re not happy with what arrives.

Helpful Tips

Search price history

Amazon’s prices shift constantly, and a deal badge doesn’t always mean you’re getting a genuinely good price. Tools like CamelCamelCamel let you check a product’s price history, so you can see whether today’s price is actually a low point or just a marketing push.

Credit card benefits

There’s more than one credit card worth knowing about if you shop at Amazon regularly.

The Amazon Barclaycard is free to hold and offers 0% interest on purchases paid off within 6 months, reverting to 28.9% representative APR (variable) after that. New cardholders can get up to £30 in Amazon gift cards, and you’ll earn 1% back in rewards on Amazon purchases, or 0.5% elsewhere. Prime members get a boosted 2% back during key shopping events like Prime Day.

If you already hold an American Express card, you can redeem your points at Amazon too, with 1,000 points worth £4.50. You’ll need to connect your card to your Amazon account before you start earning.
