Alton Towers FAQs
Yes, there are Alton Towers voucher codes, although they are only redeemable through partners. For example, Kellogg’s and Cadbury have their own websites where you can redeem codes for promotions like 2-for-1 tickets to Alton Towers. You can also claim a 33% off code through the Days Out Guide when you travel to Alton Towers by train.
Yes, Alton Towers works with Blue Light Card to offer their members up to 15% off theme park tickets and up to 10% off short stays. Log into your account and visit Alton Towers through Blue Light Card for exclusive member pricing.
NHS members can currently get day tickets from £28 (usually £34) and waterpark tickets from just £15 (usually 21).
Standard day tickets at Alton Towers cost the same for children and adults. However, children under 90cm can enter for free.
Families with young children can also save with a Parent and Toddler Pass. During off-peak periods, one adult and a toddler aged 5 or under can visit for just £25, which is £9 less than the cheapest online ticket for one person. You can also add a second toddler to the Parent and Toddler Pass for £5, bringing the total to £30 for one adult and two children.
All short breaks always include:
- An overnight stay
- Free breakfast
- Free round of extraordinary golf
- Free car parking
- 1 day theme park ticket
There are promotions where you get 2 days entry for no extra cost, essentially making it a 2-for-1 deal. These occur two to three times per year and are the best time to book.
Alton Towers hosts seasonal events such as Scarefest and Christmas every year. Tickets can be more expensive during these peak periods, but we have seen Scarefest tickets for £37 and £39, which is only a few pounds more than the cheapest off peak tickets.
It is the short breaks where prices increase more significantly. Summer short breaks start from £77, while Scarefest breaks start from £100 and Santa Sleepovers from £96.
The biggest perk is being able to see current wait times for every ride in the theme park. This can help you decide which rollercoaster to ride next, rather than blindly joining a queue that is longer than necessary.
The digital map is also useful for finding your way around the park. If you plan to buy ride photos, you can add photos from everyone in your group to the app and purchase an unlimited photo package directly through it.
How to save at Alton Towers
Book in advance and off-peak
Never visit Alton Towers without booking your tickets online and in advance. Tickets are currently up to 50% off with prices starting from £34. Emphasis on “starting on”, because Alton Towers uses dynamic pricing to decide ticket prices. Demand, weather and how early (or late) you book all determine the price you’ll pay. Savings can easily reach £10 per person depending on when and which dates you book.
Know which tickets to book
It isn’t as simple as choosing standard theme park tickets in advance. At least not if you want to maximise your savings. Here are other ticket options to consider:
- Students can get tickets for £12 cheaper with prices starting from £22
- Parent and Toddler passes for one adult and a child five or under cost £25
- Groups of 10+ can get a group discount of £7 per person with tickets from £27
Consider an annual pass
Anyone living near Alton Towers should consider an annual pass at only £64 per person, which is cheaper than only 2 visits. This is a game changer for families, especially ones with young children who may not last a full day at the theme park.
The harder choice is whether to get a Merlin Pass. The cheapest option, the Merlin Essential Pass, costs over twice as much as an Alton Towers annual pass at £139. The main benefit is that you can visit 20+ Merlin attractions, although there are different perks and restrictions depending on the pass you choose.
The Gold Pass costs £239 and the Platinum Pass costs £299. Both have no exclusion dates, apart from one day for the Gold Pass, and come with additional perks such as 20% off short breaks, shops, restaurants and VIP Experiences. These passes are really only worth considering if you plan to spend a lot of time visiting theme parks throughout the year.
Otherwise, think about whether you are likely to visit other Merlin attractions regularly, in which you should get a Merlin Essential Pass, or whether an Alton Towers annual pass is all you need.
Look for print promotions
Kellogg and Cadbury are two of the most popular brands to offer discounts via print for all Merlin theme parks. Deals like up to 50% off tickets or 2 for 1 tickets can be found on packaging and redeemed on their own dedicated websites. All you have to do is purchase these items, go online to redeem and select Alton Towers as the theme park you want tickets for.
Get 33% off with National Rail
Anyone traveling via train with National Rail can get an Alton Towers discount code for 33% off. Sign up or log into your Days Out Guide account to receive a code, which can be used on Alton Towers own site. This discount is on top of the advanced booking savings.
A max of six tickets can be used per code and you must do it by 11pm the day before you visit. Make sure to have a valid train ticket for the station nearest Alton Towers dated for the same day, otherwise your discount won’t be valid.
Look for second day free on short breaks
Alton Towers frequently offers a free second day in the theme park when staying overnight at an on-site hotel. On-site accommodation options include the Alton Towers Hotel, Splash Landings Hotel, CBeebies Land Hotel, the Enchanted Village Woodland Lodges and Stargazing Pods. For families who were planning a day visit anyway, turning it into a short break with a free second day can make overnight stays cost comparable to two separate day tickets, while also unlocking the early ride access that on-site guests receive before the park opens to the general public.
