Worth knowing upfront: Virgin Media rarely issues traditional percentage-off voucher codes. Most of their best deals are already built into the promotional pricing shown on their site — introductory rates, free setup, Volt speed boosts and switching credits. If you see a very large percentage-off code from an unfamiliar source, check it carefully before proceeding. The real savings on this page come from knowing which deal structures actually work.
This is important to understand before signing up. Virgin Media applies an annual price increase every April:
Customers who signed up from October 2025 will see a £4/month fixed rise each April. Those on contracts taken from January 2025 face £3.50/month. Customers on older contracts face a rise tied to RPI inflation + 3.9% — in 2026 that worked out at 7.7%.
These increases are written into the contract terms, which means Ofcom considers them an expected change — you cannot leave penalty-free simply because of the annual rise. However, if Virgin Media ever raises prices outside the contracted annual increase or makes a material change to your service, you would have grounds to exit. If your contract has ended, you can leave at any time without fees — and you should renegotiate rather than roll onto standard rates.
How to get the best deal with Virgin Media
Check whether Volt is worth switching to
If anyone in your household is already on an O2 Pay Monthly plan, combining it with a Virgin Media broadband package unlocks Volt benefits at no extra cost. These include a free upgrade to the next broadband speed tier (for example, M500 customers get Gig1 speeds at M500 pricing), double the mobile data on every eligible O2 SIM in the household, the WiFi Max guarantee included, and roaming in 75 destinations through O2 Travel Inclusive Zone. The speed boost alone can be worth £8-12/month depending on the tier, making Volt genuinely significant if the O2 connection is already in place.
Claim switching credits if you’re exiting another contract early
New customers switching to Virgin Media from a provider who charged them an early exit fee can claim up to £250 in bill credits to offset that cost. The process matters: you need to submit a claim within 60 days of your Virgin Media service being activated, and you must provide your final bill from the old provider showing the disconnection fee — the bill must be no more than 30 days old. Student broadband and Essential social tariff customers are not eligible for these credits.
Use QuickStart for faster connection
Eligible properties — those that previously had Virgin Media service — can use QuickStart self-installation, where all equipment is delivered and you connect it yourself, getting online in as little as 4 days. There’s no cost penalty for using QuickStart versus waiting for an engineer. If you do request an engineer when QuickStart is available, a £30 charge applies. Full fibre (Gig2) connections require engineer installation regardless.
Negotiate hard if you’re out of contract
Virgin Media out-of-contract customers are currently overpaying by an average of £329 per year compared to new customer rates. If your contract has ended, you’re not locked in — call the retentions team on 0345 454 1111, mention you’re considering leaving, and have competitor prices to hand. The conversation frequently yields pricing closer to what new customers pay, sometimes with added sweeteners. The worst that happens is they say no and you switch.
Refer a friend for £50 each
Once you’re a Virgin Media customer, refer friends or family and you’ll both receive £50 cashback when they sign up to a qualifying Virgin Media or Volt package. Get your unique referral link from the dedicated referral page on virginmedia.com.
Access Priority rewards — they’re included for everyone
Every Virgin Media broadband customer aged 16+ has access to Priority from O2 — a rotating monthly programme of exclusive rewards including cinema tickets, music events and weekly treats (weekly Greggs vouchers, Vue cinema bundles and lastminute.com travel credits are regular examples). It’s frequently overlooked by existing customers but the potential monthly value runs into tens of pounds if you use it consistently. Register through the Priority app or at o2.co.uk/priority.
About Virgin Media
Formed in 2007 through the merger of NTL, Telewest and Virgin Mobile, Virgin Media is part of Virgin Media O2 — a joint venture between Liberty Global and Telefónica created in 2021. It serves approximately 6 million UK broadband and TV customers across its own cable infrastructure, which passes 15.6 million premises and is separate from BT’s Openreach network.
The network is genuinely fast, but not symmetrical on HFC. Virgin Media’s coaxial cable network delivers some of the highest widely available download speeds in the UK — Gig1 at 1,130Mbps is available to a significant portion of the network. However, upload speeds on the HFC network are capped asymmetrically: Gig1 download comes with around 52Mbps upload, compared to full-fibre providers who offer symmetrical speeds. For most households this is invisible, but for anyone uploading large files regularly, hosting video calls or running a home server, it’s worth knowing. The newer Gig2 product runs on Nexfibre’s FTTP infrastructure and does offer genuinely symmetrical gigabit speeds.
Opensignal rates Virgin Media the most reliable UK provider. Based on the ability to successfully complete uninterrupted tasks across multiple devices, Virgin’s fixed broadband network scores highest among major UK providers in Opensignal’s assessment — a meaningful credential for households with multiple simultaneous users.
The TV offering is comprehensive. Virgin Media’s television packages start with the Flex streaming box (150+ free-to-air channels, catch-up, rolling 30-day subscription add-ons including Netflix and Sky channels) through to full bundles including Sky Sports, TNT Sport, Sky Cinema and 200+ channels in higher tiers. Netflix is now included at no extra cost on certain bundles. The TiVo-based TV box includes voice control and the Virgin TV Go app for viewing on the go.
The partnership with O2 makes the combined proposition strong for mobile users. The Volt structure — meaningful speed and data benefits for households where VM broadband and O2 mobile overlap — means the combined value is often materially better than the headline price suggests. Virgin Media is the only TV and broadband provider to offer Priority as a standard inclusion.
